Progress Update

Hey everybody! It's been a few months since I've updated y'all on the progress of my hair, so I decided to make a post about it to show you how my hair has changed. :)

First off, here's what it looked like at the end of my last update:

That about sums it up! (My apologies for the worse-than-usual quality of that last picture; someone else took it, but it was the most recent picture I could find!) My hair has been fairly consistent lately, which is why I haven't been taking pictures of it very much since October started. "Consistent" is not a word that I could have even considered calling my hair when I first started the CG method, so that's a great accomplishment for me! There are still a few curls/waves that I have to "fix" occasionally with a curling rod, but not all the time.

The products I've been using regularly are: SheaMoisture's Fruit Fusion shampoo (read my review here!) and Jessicurl's Spiralicious Styling Gel (review coming soon). I've decided that SM's fruit fusion shampoo is definitely going to be a long-term product for me. :) Still undecided about the gel, though. I've been pretty inconsistent with the conditioners I've been using because I'm still searching for a long-term condish. (Feel free to comment with suggestions. I have several on my to-try list, but I'd like to use up what I have right now before I buy any more.)

I encourage y'all to try out the CG method if you aren't already doing it (click here to read about it)! I highly recommend it; it's changed my hair tremendously. Comment & let me know what you think!

Full Progress Report!

Hi there! Welcome to Carefree Curls.
Okay everybody! I finally figured out how to upload pictures (apparently internet explorer & blogger don't get along very well, so I switched to chrome), so now I can show you my current progress!! I'm a little excited. ;)

Okiedokie, so, I'm just gonna go ahead and do a full progress chain for ya. First I'll include a pic of me when I was a kid just to show y'all that I had curly hair when I was young. The curls disappeared for awhile..

Look at how cute I was!
As you can see, I had curls when I was a little kid.

Hair before CG method being treated like straight hair

here goes! Here's my curly girl method before and after 4 weeks.

And there you have it! That's my progress so far! As you can see, theres a pretty big difference within just a single month of sticking with the curly girl method! That was from June 14th to July 14th. To sum it up, here are the pics from June 14th and July 15th, respectively.

That just makes me really happy & excited to see how my hair changes in the future. :D I encourage you to try out the CG method if you have even a hint of wave in your hair!!! <3

Just FYI: The products I am currently using are all from the DevaCurl line (no-poo, one condition, ultra defining gel). However, they're rather expensive, so I plan on exploring and trying out new products when I run out. I simply chose to start with the DevaCurl line since it's made by the person who wrote the Curly Girl Handbook (which I definitely suggest reading). I actually am about to run out of the shampoo/condish, so I ordered the As I Am Cleansing Co-wash; I also ordered Kinky Curly Curling Custard because I've heard great things about it and I'm dying to try it! I will post reviews of both products when I've tried them for awhile.

What products are you using right now?? Leave a comment!

Update as of 10/16/15...

I just wanted to add a picture of how my hair is doing now. I got it cut shorter, which helped a lot to take the weight off of my waves and help them curl a bit more. :)

I am now using SheaMoisture's fruit fusion shampoo & have been really loving it. The styling product I've been using lately is Jessicurl's spiralicious styling gel.

Why I am becoming a curly girl

Hi there! Welcome to Carefree Curls.
I've been wanting to try something new with my hair, and I figured that over the summer would be a good time to mess around with it. Recently, I've heard quite a few people mention the curly girl method. I became curious and did some reading.. I quickly realized that this method isn't just a trend: it's a completely new outlook on hair. At least, it is for me.

You see, I've grown up my whole life not really knowing what to do with my hair. It was always frizzy and fluffy, and I treated it like straight hair, blow-drying it and brushing it daily. I certainly wouldn't say my hair looked horrible, but I was never very satisfied with it. I always had little "baby hairs" at the top of my forehead that would be curly and frizzy. You be the judge. Below is a picture of me when I was treating my hair like it was straight.

That was usually what my hair looked like. The main word I can think of to describe it is fluffy. Anyway, this is what my hair looked like if I let it air-dry on its own (without using any product). I did brush my hair, just FYI.

As you can see, there's probably a bit of a curly potential there. It was definitely wavy. No defined curls, though, other than a few that were hiding under the rest of my hair. I always knew my hair had some spunk in it; I just never knew how to let my hair be naturally awesome. I recently discovered the curly girl method (CG method for short) & quickly became enthusiastic about it. I did some reading & hopped right in. I bought the CG handbook & read through it, and just yesterday, I grabbed a small trial kit of the devacurl products to give it a try. I also got a haircut since I needed a trim. Last night, I used my regular shampoo one last time and tried out my new devacurl products. I think I've fallen in love!! The cleanser and conditioner felt so wonderful and smooth on my hair, and they have a rather nice scent. After just one use, I can already tell that my hair feels healthier and happier, and it's naturally curling quite a bit easier. Here's a picture of my hair last night (it wasn't fully dry yet).

As you can see, it's definitely curlier! And that's only after one use! According to some reading, hair will get curlier, more defined, and less frizzy the longer you do the CG method, so I'm excited to see how this goes.

If there are any others out there like me who have some spunk in their hair but have always hidden it, I suggest considering the CG method. :) I am definitely excited to see where the CG method takes my hair!!
